Ireland Dance Stars

Ireland Dance Stars are a fusion of the most popular dance styles, from traditional to modern, by the leading performers and teachers of Ireland.

We commence with a mixture of Middle Eastern Dance, Flamenco and Indian; later we include Brazilian, Irish and Salsa. All these dances have a strong deep origin in their culture, which is why we are bringing them together to share the same stage.

Eastern Dance, more commonly known as Bellydance (also Oriental Dance, Raqs Sharqi, Baladi, Tribal, etc) is a very ancient style dating from before Christ. The music is closely linked and written for the dancers who must follow the rhythms closely. It was through gypsies travelling to all the Middle Eastern countries that Bellydance spread; and it is in Egypt that the most popular and sophisticated form developed. From a simple folkloric shaabi dance of the villages, it became Baladi when the peasants moved to the big cities where it flourished with then classical dance appearing in the golden age of movies of the 40s, 50s and 60s. It is the popular dance of the people and is still alive in social gatherings in all arabic culture.

Spanish Dance has many regional styles, like the sardana in Cataluna and the Flamenco in Andalucia which is the most famous form. It originates from the gypsies who travelled from India acquiring the name gitano from Egyptano, the old Spanish word for the Egyptians who settled in Andalucia. Flamenco in its present form is only two hundred years old and has Indian, Jewish and especially Arabic influences as they ruled Spain for seven centuries. There are two main styles in Flamenco, the jondo which is serious and profound - it expresses the cries of the people oppressed for many centuries and the cico which is happy, light and humorous. The most important is el cante inspired by the guitar playing el cante and the dance el baile which is still alive today in Spain.

Indian Dance is a very ancient art form and is still very much alive in social gatherings and especially popular in Indian movies with Bollywood, which is a mixture of all Indian traditional dance forms from diverse regions. The most popular combination is of classical refined movements and Bhangra aerobic uplifting steps.

Today these dances are the most popular in the world, on stage, in television, in movies and pop videos - they are a true art form and will remain for that reason. We are pleased to introduce you to Flamenco, Indian and Eastern Dance including Polynesian and Tribal, which are all connected and will blend together with delightful performances full of rhythyms, some happy and sometimes sad, with a kaleidoscope of colourful costumes. The show is choreographed, with the exception of the Spanish and Indian solos by Yasmina, who will also be performing and is producer of the show.
The cast are all accomplished dancers and teachers and are proud to share their cultures with you.
